A Lone Student Who Leads
Amidst the lamentable absence of student leadership at Santa Monica College, especially as it has been with the 2005-06 Associated Student Board of Directors and the Inter-Club Council, there remains a consistent exception, a sole voice - unelected - but nonetheless speaking out regularly and powerfully in the public comment portion of student government meetings and at every other opportunity for constructive service to SMC. (Click to see a sample of Mr. Lee in action.)
For the many students who’ve been fortunate to hear the insights from this student who remains dedicated to and fights for the ideals of what should be, what could be and what has been of participatory representation and democracy at SMC, he needs no introduction.
For the rest of you, his name is Nehasi Lee.
During a recent April 18 Inter-Club Council meeting – gatherings where irregularities typically abound under the watchful eye of Student Activities Advisor Benny Blaydes – Mr. Lee made certain valuable observations, especially with regard to the illegal participation of A.S. Vice-President Jeff Jensen. Notice the assembly’s response.
